The Solution Starts With Me.

I would like to start by telling you, I have children. I have two sons and both of them attend a local elementary school. The shootings in Newtown, Conn. hits a little too close to home for me. Pictures of crying parents who were lucky enough to find their children unharmed in Newtown are enough to bring you to tears. Pictures of parents who were less fortunate are nothing short of heart breaking. I can’t help but feel like the tragic events in Newtown could have just as easily happened here in Boise.

I am also a gun owner. In fact, I have a small arsenal at my disposal. Hunting rifles, .22’s, pellet guns, a shotgun, and a handgun. Some of these guns were handed down to me by my Grandfather and my Dad. Others I accumulated over the past so many years. They are registered in my name, ...

BEING THANKFUL

Each year following Halloween, my wife does something I really enjoy and wish I made the time to start doing myself. From November 1st thru Thanksgiving Day she posts on Facebook something she is thankful for everyday. Some are serious, some are silly. It’s a great exercise and I think it’s time some of us began to take stock in the blessings they have in their life… Like me, for example.
So, without further eloquence, I present to you some of the many things I am thankful for. (1 thru 22 for the number of days in November until Thanksgiving)

I am thankful I can still call and talk to my parents. I’m close 40 years old, and I still love talking to my Mom and Dad.
I am thankful for the changing seasons in Idaho. After so many years in Nevada, it’s great to have fall colors for ...

Fall Colors – and my 1st Bronco tailgate party at BSU.

I really have to say, Fall colors in the Boise area is fantastic to look at. Just take a quick drive thru the downtown area and then out into some of the many back roads of Southern Idaho. Better yet, take a walk or bike ride on the Greenbelt. Wow, absolutely beautiful. Really..
My favorite Autum activity is – tailgating before football on Saturday. What’s not to love about a good tailgate party? Especially when you fill the parking lot full of people who know how to do it right! I took a walk thru the parking lot before the BYU game and I saw some fantastic set up’s.
One family was nice enough to show me around the horse trailer they had custom made for BSU football parties. The inside of the trailer had been transformed into a small kitchen, complete with refrigerator and gas oven. It also had ...

Being The New Guy

This week mark the one year anniversary of my move from Nevada to Idaho. You know what I just figured out? I have not seen or done hardly a single thing since I moved here.
Yes, I did watch a Boise State Football game last season, so I’m not a complete lost cause. But the fact is, I have not seen the city or hit the town the way the locals do. On closer examination, I don’t really even know what I should be checking out. I mean, is there something I have to do or try before I can consider myself a local? Every single city I’ve ever lived in has them. Reno: The Awful, Awful Hamburger at the Little Nugget in Downtown. (It’s a HUGE burger – and comes with a truckload of fries. Great “sober-up” food after a night on the town.) Elko: A Rib Eye at ...

Going to the Movies

The shootings in Aurora, Colorado, have certainly grabbed the news spotlight over the past few days. I was, like many of you, horrified by the details released from both officials and eye witness reports. Unbelievable does not begin to describe the entire ordeal.

I can’t help but wonder what I would do if I were one of the people in that Colorado theatre. Would I panic and run for the exit? Would I shield my loved ones with my body to keep them safe? Would I return fire if armed? The questions are many, and I’ll be lucky to never have to answer them.

Here is one question I can answer: Am I ready to go see a movie? Yes, but I’ll feel strange the first time I sit in a theatre waiting for the show to begin. I’ll look at the people around me and my mind ...

A trip to Zip Idaho

Recently, Bri Eggers and I had a chance to continue our “Summer of Fun” theme, and took 8 of our listeners on a trip to Horseshoe Bend to Zip Idaho. I had never been on a Zip Line trip before, so I really did not know what to expect. The folks at Zip Idaho do a GREAT JOB and really took the safety steps very seriously, which took much of the fear out of the process for me and made it much more enjoyable.

We started the trip around 4pm on a Sunday afternoon. Ten of us in all jumped into a pair of Chevy Suburban’s (with A/C) and took the 40 minute trip up into the hills above Horseshoe Bend into the giant Ponderosa Pines. The guides gave us a complete run-down on the safety equipment we were all issued. They must have done a good job, ...

Thrill of a Lifetime!

I would like to thank my new friend “JC” at the WarHawk Air Museum in Nampa for indulging me in a lifelong pursuit. He took me for a ride in a vintage 1939 P-40 WarHawk! This is the same plane the Flying Tigers used in World War II, and I can’t begin to tell you how grateful I am for the chance to fly with him in such a historic piece of American History.
It started around 12:30 in the afternoon on Tuesday, June 18th, 2012, when I strolled into the WarHawk Air Museum in Nampa. I was directed to the back of the museum, where the hangar had been opened to roll the P-40 onto the tarmac. That’s where I met JC and one of his crew, cleaning the old girl from top to bottom. After quick introductions, I signed a waiver, strapped on a parachute and ...

Same Sex Marriage - Happy Mother's Day

Same Sex Marriage:
Vice President Biden opened this can of worms earlier in the week, when he came out in support of Same Sex Unions. Now, Barack Obama has become the first U.S. President to endorse Gay Marriage. You can watch the President’s interview below.
President Obama - Gay Marriage
As Mr. Biden would say, it’s a big freakin’ deal (only he did not say “freakin’”) and an issue that is highly controversial. People from the Gay and Transgender communities around the U.S. are, as expected, celebrating the statements. Others are enraged Mr. Obama would flip-flop on such an issue, after he campaigned against same sex unions in the last Presidential election.
As for me, I must admit, I have a difficult time understanding how I should feel about such a complex issue. My religious background says homosexuality is wrong and therefore same sex marriage should also be wrong. However, ...

Meeting Listeners, Bullying, and Warm Weather

Meeting Listeners:
On Saturday, April 21st, I had a chance to join the Boys and Girls Club of Nampa for Community Day at the Idaho Event Center. Part of my day was spent at the NewsRadio KINF booth, passing out chap stick to adults and giving candy to the many children at the event. As a father I have to say, nothing is quite as fun as hopping up somebody else’s children on candy. I received some great feedback from many of you who listen to KINF’s new morning show. Thanks for all the nice comments! As a person who is still new to Idaho and the Treasure Valley, it’s nice to learn more about the people we speak to thru the radio each day. But, next time we do that event – I’m bringing bags instead of chap stick! Those who attended know what I’m talking about.

I also went out to The Man Show and had a look around. My wife would not let me take the check book that day, but if she did I would have come home with some cool stuff! Good times!
NewsRadio KINF is less than a year old, and we are already the #1 News Station in our area! It's hard to believe how quickly our vision for this station has become reality. And on Monday, April 9th, 2012, NewsRadio KINF takes the next step. Idaho's News First begins!
